Faith
Reading over this site, I realised there was a large chunk of my life that was missing. Additionally, it is the most important piece of information that I have, against which guitar chord tutorials, web authoring tutorials and accounts of long bike rides pale into insignificance.
I am a Christian. I believe what the Bible says. I attend church regularly. I believe that I will have eternal life.
I expect you thought one of the following thoughts on reading that:
- I don’t really understand what Christianity is (then go here first!)
- I thought science had disproved all that religion stuff.
- That’s nice for you, but it’s not for me.
- Loser. I like to do what I want.
- How arrogant of you to assume you are right.
- The Church has such a bad history, I can’t believe it.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
- Excellent. Me too.
If you had another thought that doesn’t broadly correspond with one of the above, please let me know.
I don’t intend to turn this section of the site into a major conversion effort, nor into a huge theological debate. I am just going to present some of my reasoning that makes me—an otherwise logically- and scientifically-minded, intelligent bloke—put my trust in a Middle-Eastern carpenter who died an ugly death some 2,000 years ago just for suggesting that people should be nice to each other. I’ll do this by looking at each of the thoughts above (except the last one) and presenting counter-arguments. What I hope to achieve is some thought and consideration on your part, if you’ve never taken the time to think about these things. This could be the most important web page you ever look at!
If you’re intrigued, go on to the apologetics page…
